There were a few photographers that chose to make the fleet their subject.  All of them were commercial photographers hoping that the images they created could be sold to make a living.  They were all creative, talented photographers as can be seen in their work.  They enjoyed the subject of warships and sailors and found it thrilling to be onboard the ships or in the water trying to capture the right shot.
