William G. Child, Midshipman, USS Georgia – Ceylon and Home

There are some large gaps in the collection that were either lost or Midshipman Child did not get photographs.  None exist in the collection from Australia or Japan.  The next group of photographs in the collection are in Ceylon.  Certainly getting film, carrying a camera around all day, and processing and printing were difficult to coordinate around the life of a Midshipman between training and events.

Uniform regulations for 1908 were possibly restrictive.  Midshipman from the Naval Academy might not have been able to where their uniform on liberty unless it was a formal function.  Or, possibly Midshipman Child chose to where a black suite and tie in the desert of the Nile to see the pyramids.  In any case, he could not have been comfortable on this day.
