The first ports in South America have only a few cards in this collection. However they show that the ability of the photographer to define his subject and take a clear well focused picture is evident. Below is a "bum boat" alongside the ship in Rio De Janeiro.
The first group of photographs on the German Warship Bremen were made from a visit to the ship and meeting the quarterdeck watch and crew that were on deck. Each photograph is well planned for composition and lighting. The young sailor with a pigeon and the other portraits and well focused and good facial expressions. The group photo as well. Even the picture of the ship's steamer is nicely organized for the boat coxswain and crew members!
This is the only photograph from the Port of Spain, Trinidad.
